Cali Boy (The Loyal Boys, #1) Review

It's not you, it's me.

This statement suits me and this read. It started great but turned into one pile of cliche and gag-worthy plotlines. Maybe I've read so many of these kinds of books that they've become boring or maybe I have gotten used to reading dark romances that sweet and cuddly with bullies now give me hives. So, maybe it's not the book, but it's just me. Yeah, it's definitely the latter.

Oliver and Finn met when their parents jumped into a sudden marriage. And the sudden in this phrase means just that. Not even two years---or was it a year? --- after the death of Finn's mother, his father thought it was great to remarry. What an actual douche. The fun part was he didn't even give the kid a heads-up. I didn't care about the bubbly mom because she was no better. So, I hated everyone from the get-go which made the read even more irritating. However, I pushed through, thinking the boys would at least make me like them. I'm sighing at this point. Because that didn't happen. Then the bully came into play and I wanted to kill myself for being such a die-hearted reader. Like I should really learn how to have commitment issues and start DNFing books.

Even so, I read it all. The stepbrothers had to get over their past, their attraction to each other, and the group bully. Like why does there have to be a bully in books like these? Can we come up with something else that isn't 2004 mean girls---in this case, it would be boys? I could have seen the ending of the book coming from a mile away which made it less interesting.

Why did I finish reading? Because I'm not a quitter. Would I read book two? Maybe. Would I recommend it? Yep. My taste in books is unorthodox, so this one is for normal people. Something I'm not.

Coming Up for Air Review

Book Source: Kindle  Cross-Post Review:  Chantie's Goodreads Review Type: Standalone Novel Starred Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Smut Rating: 🌶/5 Coming Up for Air by Amanda Meuwissen Review  I stumbled on this story and noticed the merman on the book cover. I didn't even think much into it---not even to read the synopsis---why I took such a chance was beyond me---and got the book. My childhood obsession with merfolks--not Ariel, I hated her---followed me into adulthood. Therefore, anything merfolk and I'm going to read it. This book fell into that category. And, I was glad I decided to read this book.   It all began when Leigh was dumped into the river by the mobster brothers, whom he stole from to appease the mafia he worked for. On the verge of drowning, he was kissed by an angel. Later he woke ashore without the shackles that the gangsters had tied around his ankle. Thinking nothing of it, Leigh went home, trying to come up with a plan to get himself out of the bind he ...

Ugly (Winter Sun, #1) Review

Book Source: Store Cross-Post Review:  Chantie's Goodreads Review Type: Standalone Series Starred Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Smut Rating: 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5 Ugly (Winter Sun, #1) Review I was in the mood for an omegaverse when I stumbled on Ugly. My God was I not disappointed in my spontaneous decision. Ugly was that MM Romance I never knew I had to read. Like Burke, you could take care of me any day. Any day.  Emerson, a homeless omega, had found solitude in the bar of an older Alpha for the past three months. He never had a problem with the routine exchange of a few meals for a petty job here and there around the bar with the large alpha. Burke was caring and made him feel safe.  Burke could care less about the chores he asked the omega to do. It was a simple trade. Plus, Emerson never caused problems and often left after. Until one winter night. Three days before his heat cycle started, Emerson ended up in Burke's bar begging him to be allowed to stay until his cycle was over. The...

Home Plate (Easton U Pirates, #2) Review

Book Source: Book Store Cross-Post Review:  Chantie's Goodreads Review Type: MM Standalone Series  Starred Ratings: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Spice Rating: 🌶🌶/5 Home Plate (Easton U Pirates, #2) Review The electricity went out in my area and while bored I read book one, Bat Boy in this Easton U Pirates series, in one sitting. I'm a sucker for character arcs, so when I noticed Mason and Domonic in Bat Boy, I immediately shipped them. It thrilled me to know my intuitions were good and the duo was going to be a couple. So, I continued the trend and stayed up until the blink of dawn to read book two. Not a healthy idea since I had stuff to do in the day, but I wouldn't be a bookaholic if I never did an all-nighter for the sake of reading.  Back to the review.  Mason was the grumpy asshole while Domonic was the caring type. He wasn't overly adorable which fit his character and how the whole plot tied to Mason. I adored the banter between the two. Dominic knew how to handle Mason. H...
